Luther sweeps G-E-T volleyball

Despite keeping each of the first two sets within five points, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School volleyball team lost to the Luther Knights in three sets last Tuesday.

The Red Hawks, now 0-10 this season, still seek their first Coulee Conference victory. The team’s next chance appeared this Tuesday at home, as the Red Hawks were set to play Arcadia (5-12, 1-4 Coulee) and Black River Falls (6-11, 0-4 Coulee) in a conference event at G-E-T High School.

The visitors kept the Knights within reach in the opening set and came even closer in set two last Tuesday, but the hosts left with their fourth conference win of the season as they chase West Salem for a conference title.

The Red Hawks earned 10 serving aces against the Knights (8-4, 4-1 Coulee), two apiece from Taryn Leighty, Amanda Pierson, Amara Brantner, Emma Grams and Laela Schmitt.

Caroline Mack and Pierson tied for the team lead in kills with five, while Leighty led the visitors with six assists. Grams and Schmitt each registered a block.

Clara Schulze paced the Red Hawks with 11 digs on a night 10 of the 11 Red Hawks who played recorded at least one dig.
