Muston runs away from Arcadia early

The Arcadia boys basketball team couldn’t seem to get a stop in the first half of their Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional quarterfinal game as Mauston scored 40 points to take a big lead into halftime.

The Golden Eagles didn’t slow down much from there. They led by 20 at halftime then scored 34 more points to take a 74-48 win. Mauston was the fifth seed in their Division Three bracket, while Arcadia was the 12th. The Golden Eagles lost to (4) Wisconsin Dells by two in the semifinal of a regional that was won by West Salem.

Arcadia’s season ends with a 4-21 record. They’ll graduate five seniors, including three who started throughout the season.

While Arcadia was struggling to get its outside shots to fall — they shot one-for-15 on three-point attempts in the game — Mauston kept attacking. The Golden Eagles scored 34 more points, while maintaining control throughout the second half.

Arcadia shot 37.5 percent in the game and five-for-11 from the free-throw line.
