Norse beat Eagles in Dairyland play

The Whitehall boys basketball team pulled away midway through the second half to pick up a road Dairyland Conference win last week.

The Norse went to Pepin and were in a close game against Alma/Pepin last Thursday before a run that included two layups and a three pointer broke the game open as Whitehall won 64-57.

The win put Whitehall at 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Dairyland Conference play, tied with Melrose-Mindoro atop the Large Division. 

After a non-conference game at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Monday, the Norse hosted Blair-Taylor on Thursday and Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday. This coming Monday, they’ll welcome Thorp before playing at Gilmanton Thursday.

A 10-point lead in the first half was cut in half before the Norse put the game away.

Whitehall got off to a fast start as a three pointer by Jonathan Thorn put them ahead 20-10 with six minutes left in the first half.

The Eagles chipped away at that lead and were within five at 30-25 before Thorn connected on another three pointer early in the second half.

The lead was down to six before a run that included two steals and layups by Thorn and a three pointer by Sonsalla all within two minutes that put Whitehall ahead 52-35.

The Eagles got closer before the final buzzer, but the Norse were in control.
