The Whitehall boys basketball team had a difficult time scoring last week as the team failed to reach 55 points in a pair of home losses.

The Norse fell behind early in both games, scoring just 23 points in the first half in both Tuesday’s contest against Fall Creek and Friday’s against C-FC. Whitehall was still in the game against Fall Creek at halftime, but the Crickets took control in the second half for a 59-42 win. The Norse trailed C-FC by 18 at halftime and lost by 23.

The losses put Whitehall at 7-8 overall (6-7 in Dairyland Conference play). Whitehall plays at Alma/Pepin on Thursday and at Alma Center Lincoln on Saturday. This coming Tuesday, they’ll take on first-place Osseo-Fairchild at home.

The Crickets made some noise from the three-point line early and pulled away by scoring inside late.

Fall Creek made three shots from beyond the three-point line in the opening minutes to take an early lead. The Norse were aggressive and stayed in the game, trailing 27-23 at halftime.

Whitehall struggled offensively in the second half, however. While Fall Creek didn’t make another three-pointer in the second period, they were able to use their size to get inside. Corbin Sell, listed at six-foot-three, and Miles Schmidgall, listed at six-foot-seven, combined for 20 points in the second — one more than the entire Norse team scored.

Bo Killian and Caydan Johnston both scored nine points to lead Whitehall while Will Youngbauer added six, Riley Herman, Ayden Semb, Mason Pientok and Aiden Evans all finished with four and Connor Stevens scored two points.

The Norse had no answer for the Pirates early as one of the top teams in the conference put up 41 points in the first half.

The Pirates got three three-pointers and 13 points from Reed Schmidtknecht in the first half while Porter Ehrat added 12 points and the team took a 41-23 advantage into halftime.

The Norse had no answer for Ehrat in the second half as the C-FC player scored inside and outside and finished with a game-high 27 points.

Whitehall struggled offensively. Johnston led the team with 11 points, one more than Pientok. The team got eight from Killian and Herman while Aiden Evans scored seven, Youngbauer and Cayden Platteter finished with three and Ayden Semb had two points.
