Norse fall to Mustangs, Beavers
The Whitehall softball team struggled all around in a pair of 10-run losses last week.
The Norse fell to Melrose-Mindoro, 10-0, last week Tuesday then lost to Augusta, 11-1, on Thursday.
The losses put Whitehall at 0-4 on the season before Monday’s game at Independence/Gilmanton. The Norse host Osseo-Fairchild on Thursday and welcome Pepin/Alma next Tuesday.

The Mustangs scored five runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the bottom of the fifth.
Mel-Min took advantage of three walks and two hit batters in the bottom of the first. A triple brought two runs home and more scored on a hit batter, wild pitch and fielder’s choice.
The Mustangs led off the sixth with a home run then plated four more runs on three hits — including two doubles — a walk and a hit batter.
Kelsie Klomsten got the start and the loss for Whitehall as she exited before the end of the first inning, allowing one hit and three walks before being relieved by Regan Clatt. Clatt finished the game, allowing six hits and five walks, while striking out one.
Taylor Johnson had two of Whitehall’s six hits.
Augusta 11 Whitehall 1
The Norse had as many hits as errors as the team lost to the Beavers in five innings.
Augusta took control of the game with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Beavers added five in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead.
Whitehall’s only run came on a double by Karli Molis in the bottom of the fifth, but the team couldn’t extend the game.
The Norse had three hits in the game with three different players getting one. The team committed three errors, which helped Augusta score six unearned runs.
Klomsten started the game and pitched into the second inning, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out one. Clatt finished the game, striking out two while walking nine and allowing two hits.
