Norse go cold in second half of loss to Mustangs

Whitehall struggled to get shots to fall in the second half as a halftime lead turned into a 53-38 loss at Melrose-Mindoro last Thursday.

The Norse had a two-point advantage at the intermission, but the Mustangs went on a series of runs in the second half as Whitehall struggled offensively.

Mel-Min began the second frame with a 15-3 run that put the team ahead by 10. A jumper by Kyla Lambeck got Whitehall back within eight. The team still trailed by eight at 40-32 before the Mustangs scored seven straight to take a 15-point lead with about five minutes remaining.

The Norse shot about 22 percent from the free-throw line and missed 10 of 16 free throws. Whitehall was four-for-27 from the field in the second half.

Olivia Killian stuffed the stat sheet for Whitehall, leading the team with 12 points, 15 rebounds and six steals. Trinity Aasen scored nine for Whitehall and Lambeck finished with eight.

The Norse (3-2, 1-1) hosted Blair-Taylor on Tuesday of this week and will play in Augusta on Friday. This coming Tuesday, they’ll welcome Alma/Pepin.
