The Whitehall golf team settled into third place in the Dairyland Conference championship meet and for the season last week.

The Norse had an outside shot at finishing second as they scored a couple of second-place finishes throughout the season, but Eleva-Strum clinched a runner-up finish by finishing behind only meet and conference champion Cochrane-Fountain City at the championship meet at Trempealeau Mountain last week Tuesday.

Independence finished fifth followed by Gilmanton and Augusta. Alma/Pepin was fourth in the conference.

Most of the Dairyland Conference teams were in action again on Tuesday at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association C-FC regional. From there, the first four teams and four individuals not on qualifying teams will play at the Markesan sectional this coming Tuesday.

Whitehall had two golfers break 100, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the top teams in the conference.

Keanu Estenson shot a 96 to lead the Norse, two strokes better than Adam Kleinhans. Matthew Poulos came in with a 103, Drake Jurowski a 109 and Brekken Kulig shot a 126.

Whitehall’s score of 406 was well behind Eleva-Strum, 378, and C-FC, 342. A/P was fourth with a 493 followed by Independence, 523; Gilmanton, 544 and Augusta, 572.

Independence had three golfers competing and both Adian Gaier and Mitchell Halverson shot 115. Charlie Baize came in with a 131.

Eleva-Strum’s Riley Sterry was the meet medalist, shooting a 77. All six C-FC golfers finished with scores under 100, including three in the 80s.
