While their hopes for a state championship are no longer, the Whitehall volleyball team continued its season last week, splitting two matches with Melrose-Mindoro.

Whitehall was eliminated from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament on Oct. 24, but they were able to add matches to extend their season outside of tournament play. They opened the week by winning the first two sets before going on to beat Melrose-Mindoro 3-1 last week Tuesday. On Thursday, they rallied to force a fifth set, but lost in the final frame.

The Norse volleyball season continues this week as they hosted Independence on Tuesday and will play at Independence on Thursday.

Whitehall has an overall record of 12-3 and a set record of 40-14.

After controlling the first set, the Norse held on with two more closer wins to take the match.

The 13-point win in the first set wasn’t indicative of how the rest of the match would go. Whitehall squeaked out a two-point win to go ahead 2-0 before Mel-Min won the third 25-20. Whitehall regained control in the fourth and won by seven.

Allison Koepke had 25 kills for the Norse to go with 12 digs while Olivia Youngbauer had 41 set assists and 13 digs. Nylah Lisowski finished with 14 kills, 18 digs and five service aces while Abby Semb had 16 digs and four kills.

After falling behind 2-0, the Norse rallied, but couldn’t finish the run to get the win.

The Mustangs controlled the first set for an eight-point win then went ahead 2-0 with a three-point win. The Norse fought back for a three-point win then took the fourth set by eight to tie the match, but the Mustangs regained control and won the final set by four.

Youngbauer had 49 assists for the Norse to go with 23 digs. Koepke had 26 kills and 20 digs while Lisowski had 22 kills and 22 digs. Semb finished with 33 digs and five kills and Kambrie Wurzer had 24 digs.
