Norse pull away from Eagles

After a tough first half, the Whitehall girls basketball team took control for a win over Alma/Pepin last week Monday.

The Norse led by four at halftime, but only scored 18 points. They were able to get the ball inside in the second half as they pulled away.

Whitehall (9-4, 1-4) hits the road this week. They played at Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday and will go to Melrose-Mindoro on Friday. This coming Monday they’ll play a fourth straight road game when they head to Cadott.  They return home on Tuesday to play Gilmanton before welcoming Blair-Taylor on Thursday.

Whitehall 43 A/P 29

To break out of an offensive slump, the Whitehall girls basketball team got the ball inside and, as a result, got to the free-throw line.

The Norse had an 18-14 lead at halftime, but were able to get the ball close to the basket, either scoring or drawing fouls in the second half. As a result, Olivia Killian scored eight of her game-high 10 points in the second half, while Nylah Lisowski added six of her eight.

Whitehall’s defense, meanwhile, held the Eagles to just seven field goals in the second half, while also not fouling on shot attempts. The Norse shot 14-for-27 from the free-throw line, while the Eagles were two-for-seven. Whitehall held A/P to 25.5 percent shooting and forced 30 turnovers.

Killian added 11 rebounds for the Norse, while Lisowski had six. McKenna Pientok scored all eight of her points in the first half while Norah Youngbauer added seven in the game.
