Norse slug past Beavers
Big innings early and late gave the Whitehall baseball team a lopsided win last week Tuesday.
The Norse took a big lead with a four-run first inning then put the game away late while holding Augusta’s offense in check.
The win was the first of the season for Whitehall as they lost to Independence/Gilmanton later in the week. They sat at 1-2 on the season before hosting Melrose-Mindoro on Monday, going to Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday, welcoming Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday and heading to Melrose-Mindoro on Friday.
This coming Monday, they’ll play at Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran before hosting Pepin/Alma on Friday.

The Norse scored four in the first inning and broke the game wide open in the fifth.
The scoring started when Devon McCune tripled to bring in Aidan Sonsalla, who reached on a. Dropped third strike. Eric Kleinhans hit into an error before consecutive singles by Isaac Skoyan and Brayden Lisowski, the second of which plated two runs as the Norse took a 4-0 lead.
Augusta scored in the bottom of the first when the leadoff batter singled and scored on a balk with the bases loaded. A strikeout and ground out ended the threat.
McCune added an RBI single in the second before scoring himself on a sacrifice fly by Brock Sluga.
After a groundout to start the fifth, the Norse picked up four straight singles, the last of which was by Alex Sartor, who brought home two runs.
Sonsalla later walked before McCune singled in another run. Sluga walked with the bases loaded for another before Kleinhans was hit by a pitch. Beighley singled in another run to put the Norse ahead by 12.
Whitehall had eight hits as McCune led the way going two-for-three with three RBIs. Skoyen and Lisowski both had two hits. Sluga, Kleinhans, Skoyen and Sartor all had two RBIs.
Lisowski got the start, pitching two innings with two hits and one walk, while striking out two. Michael Spare pitched the next two innings, striking out two with one walk then Seth Lambeck tossed a perfect fifth inning.
