Norse softball falls to B-T, ACL

There were bright spots, but the Whitehall softball team was swept in two doubleheaders last week.

The Norse competed with Blair-Taylor in the first game last week Tuesday, but fell short, 8-0, before dropping the second game, 18-1. They were close with Alma Center Lincoln, falling 5-3 in the first game before losing the second, 16-5.

Whitehall began this week with a 1-8 record before they hosted Melrose-Mindoro on Tuesday. They’ll head to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday before hosting Cochrane-Fountain City this coming Monday and playing at Pepin/Alma on Tuesday.

The Hornets took the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth and the Norse couldn’t match them.

The teams were tied 2-2 entering the final frame of the first of two games played that day. Three walks, two hit batters and two errors allowed three runs to score for ACL.

Whitehall got one in bottom half of the inning as Ashlyn Clatt led off with a single and scored on a groundout. They had a runner on with one out, but two strikeouts ended the game.

Whitehall took an early lead when Clatt scored on a hit by Olivia Killian in the first. ACL tied the game in the third then took advantage of two errors to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth. An RBI single by Zoey George tied the game for Whitehall in the bottom of the fourth.

The Hornets only had one hit in the game, but six walks, two hit batters and six Whitehall errors helped them score five unearned runs off of Clatt, who struck out four in the loss.

Killian had three of Whitehall’s five hits.
