The Whitehall softball team had a difficult time keeping opponents off the board in three losses last week.
Whitehall scored 24 runs in three games, but allowed at least 10 runs in each and 42 total. The week began with a 10-8 loss to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday before falling to Independence/Gilmanton, 12-10, on Thursday and Blair-Taylor, 20-6, on Friday.
The losses put Whitehall at 2-9 overall on the season. They’ll be back in action on Thursday, playing at Osseo-Fairchild before heading to Alma Center Lincoln on Friday. This coming Tuesday, they’ll host Eleva-Strum.
ECIL 10 Whitehall 8
The Norse had the lead late, but the Lancers put up four in the bottom of the sixth to get the win.
Whitehall tied the game with consecutive doubles by Addison Poeschel and Kelsie Klomsten to start the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Johnson singled in the go-ahead run and Carson Coburn walked with the bases loaded to give the Norse an insurance run.
But it wouldn’t be enough.
The Lancers started the bottom of the inning with two singles before a run scored on a groundout. An error allowed the tying run to come home before a single put the ECI in the lead. The Lancers added another run on a wild pitch.
Whitehall got two runners on in the top of the seventh, but a fly out and a groundout ended the game.
The Norse got off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the first inning. Coburn and Poeschel had RBI singles in the inning. But the Lancers responded with one in the bottom of the first then four in the second.
Whitehall was playing catch-up the rest of the game. The Norse scored in the top of the third, but ECI answered in the fourth. Whitehall scored the next four runs, one in the fifth and three in the sixth, but the Lancers came back again for the win.
The Norse belted 13 hits in the game as Ziva Rose and Johnson were both three-for-four. Poeschel, Coburn and Herman all had two hits.
Regan Clatt got the start and pitched into the second inning, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out two. Klomsten took over and finished the game, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four.
