Norse softball team ends season with two losses
The Whitehall softball team fought until the very end, but the final result was two losses as the team’s season came to an end last week.
Whitehall finished the regular season with a 7-0 loss to Eleva-Strum last Tuesday. On Thursday, the team couldn’t keep up with Necedah’s offense. Whitehall fought to score three runs in its final at-bat, but it wasn’t enough in the 11-7 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional quarterfinal loss.
The Norse finished the season with a 2-15 record.
E-S 7 Whitehall 0
Whitehall couldn’t get it going at the plate, managing just two hits while striking out 14 times against Eleva-Strum ace Ruby Bartholomew.
The Cardinals took the lead with two runs in the fourth, then added three in the fifth before plating two in the seventh.
Regan Clatt took the loss for Whitehall, striking out eight while allowing four hits and four walks. Five of the runs charged to her were unearned as Whitehall committed four errors.
Necedah 11 Whitehall 7
The Norse rallied late, but it wasn’t enough.
Whitehall threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs before recording an out, but that’s as close as they’d get.
Addison Herman led off the seventh with a double and scored on a single by Taylor Johnson. After Regan Clatt singled, Addison Poeschel doubled two runs in. That’s where the rally would end, however. The next three Whitehall batters flied out, ending the game.
The Cardinals jumped ahead with three runs in each of the first two innings. Whitehall fought back with a three-run double by Johnson in the third, but Necedah was hot at the plate. The Cardinals scored two in the fourth and another in the fifth to go ahead by six runs again.
Whitehall scored one in the sixth, but the Cardinals put up two in the bottom half of that inning.
The Norse had seven hits in the game as Johnson was 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Clatt also had two hits, and Poeschel had two RBIs.
Clatt took the loss in the circle, despite getting 10 strikeouts. She allowed 13 hits and two walks, but errors were a big issue as only three of Necedah’s runs were earned.
