Norse take third in DC golf standings

With two third-place finishes last week, the Whitehall golf team locked up the top spot behind Eleva-Strum and Cochrane-Fountain City in the Dairyland Conference.

By winning two straight DC matches, C-FC made the top of the standings interesting, but the Cardinals finished with a win to lock up the team title. Whitehall and Independence were tied for third with three matches left, but the Norse took third in all three of the final matches, while Independence dropped to fifth and sixth. E-S finished with 122 points, 10 better than C-FC. Whitehall came in with 82 followed by Gilmanton, 66; Independence, 58; Augusta, 38 and Alma/Pepin, 16.

Nick Higley of E-S took the top individual spot with 134.5 points followed by Aidan Schmidtknecht of C-FC with 108 and Independence’s Gabe Rombalski with 107. Whitehall’s top golfer was Keanu Etsenson, who finished 11th with 50 points.

Both Independence and Whitehall golfed at the Onalaska Luther regional held at Drugan’s Castle Mound on Tuesday of this week. From there, the top four teams and four golfers not on those teams will advance to the Mineral Points sectional to be held next week Wednesday.
