Norse win one at Loyal quad
The Whitehall volleyball team came away with one win in its season-opening quadrangular in Loyal last Tuesday.
The Norse defeated Augusta, 2-1, but fell to Rib Lake, 0-2, and Loyal, 1-2. The competition was the team’s first with head coach April Foss.
Whitehall will be in action again on Saturday as the team competes in a tournament at Black River Falls. Next Thursday will be the Dairyland Conference opener with the squad playing at home against Blair-Taylor.
Loyal Quadrangular
After a close loss in the second set, the Norse came through in the clutch to beat Augusta.
Whitehall lost its first match of the quad, falling to Rib Lake in two sets. It opened the match against Augusta with a 25-20 win, but the Beavers tied it up with a 26-24 win in the second. The third was another close one, but the Norse came through with a 15-13 victory.
Paige Lisowski had eight kills to lead Whitehall. Bria Pank added five kills and led the team with 12 assists and four blocks. Harlow Foss had four kills, three service aces and eight digs. Karli Molis added two aces and five digs while Kelsie Klomsten had seven digs, two kills and two blocks.
The team’s third match went three sets, but none were particularly close. Loyal won the first set by eight points before Whitehall surged in the second with a 14-point victory. Foss served up three aces in the match as the Norse scored 10 straight points with her at the service line in the second set. That momentum did not carry over, however, as Loyal closed the match with a 15-9 win.
Pank had a team-high 11 kills while Lisowski finished with seven and Klomsten registered five. Kyla Lambeck’s 17 assists were a team best and she added 11 digs. Foss had 13 digs.
Whitehall lost the first set to Rib Lake, 25-20, and the second, 25-10. Lisowski and Foss both had four kills, Pank finished with three, adding had seven assists and two aces. Avvia Herman and Lambeck both had six digs against Rib Lake.
