Offensive struggles doom Norse girls in WIAA play

A familiar issue came back as the Whitehall girls basketball team struggled to put the ball in the basket in a season-ending Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional loss last week.

The Norse scored just 26 points total — less than Eau Claire Regis had in the first half alone — in a 61-26 loss in regional quarterfinal action last week Wednesday.

The loss put Whitehall’s final record at 12-12 on the season. The team will graduate seven seniors.

Whitehall just couldn’t get its offense started as the team found itself trailing by 19 at halftime.

The Ramblers took control of the game early on and built up a 32-13 lead after the first half. It didn’t get any better for the Norse in the second half as they scored 13 again in the lopsided loss.

Vaida Goplin led the Norse with five points while Norah Youngbauer scored four, Brenna Clatt, Olivia Killian and Ashlyn Clatt all scored three, Nicoya Yarrington, Nylah Lisowski, McKenna Pientok and Carson Coburn all finished with two points.

Ava Highman led the Ramblers with 18 while Makenna Rohrscheib had 16 and Cara Olson had 10. The Ramblers lost to Osseo-Fairchild in the regional semifinal round.
