Panthers score 42 first-half points to bypass Raiders
West Salem scored 42 points in the first half to power the Panthers to a 57-22 Coulee Conference victory at Arcadia High School last Friday despite another strong day for the Raiders’ passing game.
The Panthers (5-0, 3-0 Coulee) were the top-ranked team in Division Four entering last week and earned nearly 450 yards of offense against the Raiders.
The visitors scored three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, and Luke Baginski’s second touchdown run of the day gave West Salem a 28-0 advantage in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
West Salem held a 42-14 advantage at the half before scoring twice in the fourth quarter.
Arcadia senior Ted Teske put Arcadia on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a 9-yard touchdown catch. Arcadia quarterback Carter Wegman also threw an 8-yard score to Kaiden Rotering in the first half before the duo connected for another touchdown — this one from 14 yards out — for the hosts’ lone score in the second half.
Wegman finished the game 14-for-22 with 221 yards and three scores, while Teske’s 75-yard night paced the Raiders in receiving. Jonah Slaby led Arcadia in receptions with six grabs for 63 yards, and Rotering caught three for 57 yards.
Wegman leads the Coulee Conference with 763 passing yards through five games. Teske sits atop the conference leaderboard in receiving yards (403) and receiving touchdowns (six) while being second in receptions (22).
Junior Max Blaschko earned 75 of the Raiders’ 95 rushing yards on Friday, while the Panthers rushed for 225 as a team. Blaschko has earned at least 75 rushing yards in all five of the Raiders’ games in 2024 and has four of the team’s five rushing touchdowns.
Baginski led the visitors with 101 yards and three scores on 12 touches.
Teske was one of three Raiders to earn at least 10 tackles for the Arcadia defense as the senior’s 11 solo tackles and 16 total tackles were both game highs. Fellow Arcadia senior Max Sobotta finished with 13 tackles, and Blaschko recorded 10.
Arcadia (3-2, 2-1 Coulee) was scheduled to host Westby (3-2, 2-1 Coulee) this Friday.
