Pirates edge Raiders in girls basketball

A one-point lead at halftime didn’t balloon much for the Cochrane-Fountain City girls basketball team last Tuesday, but it did grow just enough to edge host Arcadia.

The Raiders (0-2 this year) ultimately fell 64-58 in the tight contest. Arcadia was scheduled to visit Onalaska on Tuesday before opening Coulee Conference play against Westby at home on Friday.

The Raiders fought hard on Tuesday and had a tight halftime score as a result—the Pirates led 29-28 and only pulled away for good late in the second half.

Arcadia senior Breah Golden kept her strong start to the season going, scoring 32 points thanks to a handful of threes. Casidi Pehler contributed a double-double for the Raiders, scoring 13 points and collecting 10 rebounds.

The Pirates (2-1) had a pair of strong offensive performances of their own thanks to Alexis Pronschinske’s 33 points and 13 more from Isabella Holzer.
