Pleasantville Lions to host annual Fourth of July tournament
Five teams are lined up to compete in the Pleasantville Lions Club’s annual Fourth of July men’s fastpitch softball tournament this weekend.
Play begins on Friday when Weiner’s Bar takes on Jacobson Electric at 6 p.m. My Second Home will play Pleasantville Lions Club in the nightcap.
Play continues Saturday morning when Ritter Hardware takes on Pleasantville at 9:30 a.m. Ritter Hardware plays again right after that game, this time against My Second Home. At 1:30 p.m., My Second Home will play again, this time against Jacobson. Weiner’s Bar competes in the next two games, playing Ritter at 3:30 and Pleasantville at 5:30. Pleasantville will play the last game before fireworks Saturday night, taking on Jacobson at 7:30.
The games on the first two days will set the stage for a championship round on Sunday, where the top four teams will compete. The first seed takes on the fourth seed at noon, and then the second seed will play the third seed. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The tournament is part of a community celebration, which includes music on Friday night by Six Figure Sunrise. A pancake breakfast will be served at Grace Lutheran Church from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, and a tractor ride begins at 10:30 a.m. that day. A fireworks display will close out Saturday night.
Sunday’s activities include music with Debbie Dahl & Friends at 10 a.m., followed by a worship service at 10:30. The Citizen of the Year award will be presented at 11:30 a.m. and a pie and ice cream social will be held by the Pleasantville Women’s Club at the town hall at noon.
Dairyland League
A three-run home run by Connor Weltzien helped My Second Home edge Pleasantville, 8-7, in Dairyland Fastpitch League play on Thursday.
That was one of two hits for Weltzien, while Miles Helgeson was 3 for 4. Ethan Ringlien was the winning pitcher. Dan Schulte and Shandler Herman each had two hits for Pleasantville.
Both of Thursday’s games were played in Pleasantville as Jacobson defeated Wason’s Supper Club, 8-3, in the second game. Matt Sluga was the winning pitcher while Brock Sluga and Bryce Schorbahn both had two hits for Jacobson. Ben Lefluer, John Dorn, and Tyler Richie all had two hits for Wason’s.
