Post 354 claws back to .500 with two wins

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks Post 354 legion baseball team won both of its games last week to get back to a .500 record this summer.

Post 354 (2-2) exhibited explosive bats to overtake Tomah on Monday and followed with another victory over Sparta last Thursday.

A home doubleheader against La Crosse Post 52 was scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. before Viroqua’s legion squad visits G-E-T Middle School this Thursday for two more games.

The visitors scored five runs apiece in both the third and fourth innings last Monday to breeze to victory in five innings of baseball against Tomah.

Six different players recorded hits for G-E-T, which was led by Calvin Davis’ three-hit day. Tucker McDonah added two more for Post 354, which outhit Tomah nine to two.

Ben Filla picked up the win as the starting pitcher for G-E-T and tossed all five innings. Filla allowed two hits and one earned run to pair with four strikeouts and three walks.

Another road game ended in winning fashion for Post 354 last Thursday and also saw some fifth-inning pop from the visitors.

Sparta took a 3-1 lead in the first inning, but G-E-T tied the game in the top of the third on a single from Davis and an error by the Spartans. A 3-RBI double from Filla in the fifth inning opened the offense for Post 354 to help the visitors earn a comeback victory.

Davis hit 3-for-4 with a double to lead G-E-T, and Filla finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Myles and Oliver Marley split pitching duties for the visitors, combining to allow eight hits while striking out six Sparta batters and walking five others.
