Raider girls split CC basketball efforts

A tight win over Viroqua avenged a loss to another Coulee Conference opponent for the Arcadia High School girls basketball team last week.

The Raiders are now 4-4 in conference play and 5-12 on the year. 

Arcadia was scheduled to visit Durand-Arkansaw on Monday before they host Tomah on Friday.

A trip to Westby High School did not go the Raiders’ way last Tuesday against one of the top teams in the conference.

The Norse (15-3 overall, 7-1 Coulee) held a 32-18 advantage at halftime before restricting Arcadia to just 15 points in the second half.

Breah Golden led Arcadia with 13 points, while Kennedy Brueggen of Westby led all players with 18.

Arcadia overcame foul trouble to win Thursday’s conference game.

The Raiders gave Viroqua (3-14, 0-8 Coulee) 20 points in free throws and sent the Blackhawks to the line 37 times. Zoey Clark led Viroqua with a 17-point effort, including nine free throws.

The Raiders were able to hold on, pushing their one-point halftime lead into the 10-point win.

Golden had 20 points to pace all players, and junior teammate Casidi Pehler collected 11 rebounds.
