Raider netters start CC play with two losses

The Arcadia volleyball team struggled offensively as they lost two Coulee Conference matches last week.

The Raiders won one of seven sets, but only scored more than 20 points in one other set. The week began with a 3-0 loss at Black River Falls last week Tuesday before they fell to Onalaska Luther 3-1 on Thursday.

Arcadia competed in a tournament at La Crosse Aquinas on Saturday (see story elsewhere in Sports) and played their first home match of the season against West Salem on Tuesday. They head to Viroqua this Thursday and will host Westby next Thursday.

The Raiders came close to extending the match, but fell short in the third set. 

Arcadia was in striking distance in the first two sets, but the Tigers came away with wins of five and seven points. The third set was close, but the Raiders fell just short.

Sky Reit led the team with five blocks and seven kills, one more kill than Sammy Berg. Autumn Passehl had a team-best 15 set assists, to go with 14 digs, tying Reit for the second most on the team. Kealey Ziegeweid led the team with 17 digs. Kianna Suchla had three service aces.

The Raiders surged for the win to extend the match in the third set, but their offense fell off again.

Arcadia got going in the third set and held on for the 25-23 win, but they failed to score more than 11 points in any other set. They lost the first by 18 points and the second and fourth by 14.

Passehl led the team in digs and assists with 17 and four. Reit had four kills and 12 digs while both Kaitlyn Bremer and Ziegeweid both had seven digs.
