Raiders first, Indees second at Dragon Duals
Both Arcadia and Independence/Gilmanton exited the Dragon Duals with 3-1 records, but a head-to-head win gave the Raiders the team trophy.
Arcadia beat I/G 35-24, winning four of the seven matches that were decide don the mat.
Arcadia got wins from Hunter Fitzpatrick (138) over Gabe Pietrek, 17-0; Cruz Patzner (152) over Logan Vold, pin in 1:05; Gery Lopez (160) over Clay Herdahl, pin in 59 seconds and Jack Ziegeweid (220) over Drew Bragger, pin in 27 seconds. Receiving forfeits for the Raiders were Nestor Badillo (126) and Ivan Aguilar (120).
Winning for the Indees was Gael Leon (132) over Jose Monroy, 13-10; Mason Gierok (182) over Martin Aguilar, 6-0 and Jocobo Medina (285) over Eric Bustos, pin in 1:10. Max Marsolek (145) and Gavin Bragger (195) received forfeits for the Indees.
Arcadia’s loss came to Black River Falls as they fell 41-39. Winning for Arcadia was Jose Monroy, Patzner, Lopez, Ziegeweid, Bustos, Andy Monroy and Badillo.
The scores for Arcadia’s other matches were not reported.
A pin by Leon in the final match gave the Indees a 36-35 win over BR Falls.
Trailing by five, Leon pinned Daniel Goldsmith in the second period to give I/G a 36-35 win. Also winning for the Indees were Marsolek, Gierok, Gavin Bragger, Drew Bragger and Medina.
“This was a tough week mentally and emotionally for the team. After finally getting everyone healthy and filling all 14 weight classes for the first time this season, we were quickly down five of our wrestlers for Saturday’s tournament due to illness and injury,” I/G coach Ryan Guza said. “ The kids responded extremely well. Saturday I witnessed a new level of leadership, enthusiasm, and fight in the team.”
The Indees also picked wins of 42-18 over Mondovi and 36-30 over Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek. Leon, Pietrek, Marsolek, Gierok, Gavin Bragger, Drew Bragger and Medina all got wins against Mondovi. Leon, Pietrek, Marsolek, Herdahl, Gavin Bragger and Drew Bragger were the winning wrestlers against the O-F co-op.
