Raiders hold off Cards for first win

Arcadia’s offense hasn’t quite hit yet, but their defense and pitching were enough to get the team in the win column last week Monday.

Two rcadia pitchers held Eleva-Strum to four hits and one run as they struck out 12 in a 2-1 Arcadia win. The Raiders had two other games rained out last week.

Arcadia was in action again on Monday when they played at Whitehall, on Tuesday they’ll head to Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau before playing La Crosse Logan on Thursday.

This coming Tuesday they’ll head to Viroqua for a doubleheader before welcoming West Salem on Friday.

Arcadia 2 E-S 1

A double and an error put the Raiders ahead late and they held on to win.

Arcadia trailed 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth before Connor Weltzien singled. The next batter, Carson Martin, hit a line drive into left field. That scored Weltzien before Martin came home on a two-base error, putting the Raiders ahead 2-1.

The Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the sixth, but Prestin Scow got Diego Gutierrez to hit into a double play then struck out Alex Anderson. The Cardinals went down in order in the seventh.

Eleva-Strum’s only run came in the top of the fourth when Justin Becker singled Carter Gunderson home after the former was hit by a pitch.

Scow got the win, pitching 2.2 innings in relief of McCoy Yarrington. Scow allowed two hits while striking out four without a walk. Yarrington pitched the first 4.1 innings, striking out eight with two walks and two hits allowed.

Becker had two of Eleva-Strum’s four hits. Tyler Webb took the loss, pitching into the sixth inning, striking out six and walking one.

Arcadia had five hits in the game with five different players getting one. Martin’s double was the only extra base hit.
