Raiders rattle off three softball wins ahead of pivotal week in conference play

After losing its first two conference games of the season two weeks ago, Arcadia High School’s softball team got back on track with three straight victories last week.

The Raiders are 9-4 overall including 6-2 in the Coulee Conference ahead of three pivotal conference games this week.

Arcadia visited West Salem (8-4, 7-1 Coulee) on Monday and hosted Westby (2-12, 2-6 Coulee) on Tuesday. The Raiders get a second crack at rival Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (7-6, 6-2 Coulee) this Thursday less than a month after the Red Hawks topped Arcadia in their first matchup on April 22.

Arcadia 4 Viroqua 1

The Raiders built a 3-0 lead and didn’t falter in last Tuesday’s victory over the Blackhawks (6-8, 4-5 Coulee) at Viroqua High School.

Arcadia scored four runs on four hits—including two from Brynn Aspen—and Kaitlyn Bremer allowed one hit in seven innings pitched. Bremer finished with six strikeouts, four hits allowed and three walks.

Arcadia 14 Luther 2

It took two innings for the Raiders to score seven times last Thursday, and the visitors doubled their offensive output in the final three innings to leave with another conference victory.

Tatum Drazkowski showed strong at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with four RBI and a double. Sammy Berg hit 3-for-3 for Arcadia, scoring two of their runs. Amaya Schlesser (two) was the other Arcadia batter with multiple hits.

Four different players recorded hits for the Knights (2-14, 0-9 Coulee) as Bremer again started for the Raiders, striking out 10 batters while giving up one earned run.

Arcadia 3 Logan 2

A late scare from Logan kept the Raiders on their toes, but the latter escaped a road game with their third straight win last Friday with a lot of help from Bremer.

Bremer paved the way for Arcadia, scoring all three of the Raiders’ runs. Bremer opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, doubled the visitors’ lead in the fourth before hitting a double and eventually scoring in the sixth inning.

Bremer earned her third win of the week for Arcadia. The junior held Logan (5-11, 4-5 Mississippi Valley Conference) to a handful of hits and struck out eight batters while walking four others.

Logan scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 3-2, but Arcadia held off the Rangers in the seventh.
