Raiders, Red Hawks compete at tournaments

The Arcadia and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau volleyball teams each tried to hone their craft by competing in two-day tournaments last week.

The Raiders split the six matches they played at the Just-A-Game Sprawl Invite last Wednesday and Thursday.

The opening day saw them win three out of four, as they lost to Cuba City (7-25, 12-25), eked out a three-set win over Cumberland (25-18, 16-25, 15-10) and then swept both Southwestern (25-19, 25-13) and La Crosse Logan (25-22, 25-22) to finish Wednesday’s slate.

On Thursday, Arcadia suffered straight-set defeats to both Webster (16-25, 14-25) and Mineral Point (20-25, 20-25) to wrap up the tournament.

The Red Hawks were part of the field at the Just-A-Game Friendship Invite on Friday and Saturday, where they went 3-4 overall.

During Friday’s slate, G-E-T lost a trio of three-set matches to Sheboygan North (14-25, 26-24, 9-15), Wisconsin Dells (18-25, 25-11, 11-15) and Wausau West (18-25, 25-21, 7-15) with a straight-set victory over Tomahawk (25-16, 25-20) wedged in.

On Saturday, they swept Dodgeland (26-24, 25-11) and battled past Fall River (15-25, 25-17, 15-12) before falling to Cashton in three sets (25-13, 13-25, 15-7) to finish their weekend.

Arcadia and G-E-T are set for the first renewal of their rivalry this season later this week, playing at the Wanek Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.
