Raiders silence Crickets

After two tough losses, the Arcadia girls basketball team rolled past a team that was previously undefeated.

La Crosse Aquinas and Tomah proved to be tough matchups for the Raiders and Fall Creek figured to be another as they entered the game with a 5-0 record, but the Raiders took control early on and pulled away for a 16-point road win.

“This win against an undefeated and ranked team will really help our confidence moving forward,” coach Lucas Passehl said.

The win evened Arcadia’s record at 2-2 before they played at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Monday of this week. That was followed by a home game against Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday before the Raiders go to Black River Falls on Thursday. This coming Monday, they’ll host Black River Falls before welcoming Onalaska Luther next Thursday.

The Raiders were aggressive and efficient on offense as they made eight three pointers and connected on 18-of-23 free throws.

Arcadia was led by Chloe Halverson who filled the state sheet with 20 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and six steals. She made 12-of-14 free throws for the Raiders.

Autumn Passehl was on fire from the outside, drilling five three pointers as part of her 18 points while Hailey Sonsalla added 13, Casidi Pehler scored six, Breah Golden finished with five and Kianna Suchla had four. Sonsalla added eight rebounds and four steals while Golden had five rebounds and four assists.

The Raiders built a 31-21 lead by halftime and took control in the second half for the lopsided win. 

Arcadia shot 40.8 percent from the field, including eight three pointers on 17 attempts.
