It was a story of two extremes for the Arcadia baseball team last week as they lost one game by the mercy rule before winning one.

Little went right for the Arcaida baseball team as they lost to West Salem 14-0 last week Tuesday. On Friday, however, they took an early lead and remained in control for a 10-0 win over Black River Falls.

Arcadia entered this week with a 6-3 record before hosting Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Tuesday. Arcadia remains home for a game against Luther on Thursday and for two games this coming Tuesday as they host a doubleheader against Viroqua.

West Salem 14 Arcadia 0

The Raiders struggled across the board in their most lopsided loss of the season.

Arcadia managed just three hits in the game while allowing 10 to go with five walks, while also committing nine errors in the game.

Two walks and two hits put West Salem ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, then they added two more runs before the end of the at-bat. Two Arcadia errors with two outs kept the second inning alive before consecutive hits put West Salem ahead 6-0.

West Salem added three more runs in the third inning then broke the game wide open with five in the sixth.

Carson Martin had two of Arcadia’s three hits.

McCoy Yarrington got the loss, allowing nine hits and two walks in three innings. Connor Weltzien pitched the last three innings, allowing three walks and one hit while striking out four. Eight of West Salem’s 14 runs were unearned.

Arcadia 10 BR Falls 0

The Raiders got started right away before pulling away late.

Arcadia took the lead when Martin scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. Cameron Boland tripled in one run then stole home for another, putting Arcadia ahead 3-0 after two before Martin scored again, this time on a ground out in the third.

The 4-0 lead stood until the fifth when Martin led off with a single and scored on a double by Carson Pehler. Pehler then scored on a groundout by Alex Madden.

The Raiders broke the game wide open in the sixth as Martin singled Boland home before Pehler doubled in Ryan Sokup, putting Arcadia ahead 8-0. Martin crossed home plate for a fourth time in the game on a sacrifice fly by Madden and Pehler scored on an error.

The Raiders had 11 hits as Martin went four-for-four and Pehler was three-for-four. Madden led the team with three RBIs, Pehler had two.

Madden also picked up the win, controlling the Tigers with four hits and two walks allowed while he struck out three.
