Raiders top field at Sparta meet

The Arcadia and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau golf teams got their seasons under way on Saturday, as the Arcadia boys bested the field by 16 strokes at River Run Golf Course in Sparta.

The Raiders tallied 360 strokes to beat out La Crosse Aquinas’ team score of 376, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau with 388, Cochrane-Fountain City’s 411, Luther’s 421, Osseo-Fairchild’s 423 and Hillsboro-Wonewoc-Center’s score of 457.

Coulee golfers were back in action on Monday at Viroqua Hills, as well as Tuesday at Fox Hollow Golf Course. Their week ends in Black River Falls on Friday at Skyline Golf Course.

Sparta Meet

The first-place Raiders were led by event medalist Cole Sobotta, who tied Sam Dobbins of Aquinas with 85 strokes before winning a playoff hole to earn the top placement outright.

Rounding out Arcadia’s top five were scores of 90 from Chandler Sonsalla and Sid Halvorsen, a 95 from Carter Pronshinske and a 104 from Dustin Klonecki.

G-E-T was led by a score of 91 from Caleb Lightfoot, followed by a 93 from Chrisotpher Wagner, Mason Truax’s 94, Justin Gappa’s 110 and Jake Amoth’s 117.
