Red Hawk football claims second straight conference win

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School football program has claimed its second win in as many weeks, scoring 104 points over the span of their first two victories of 2022.

The Red Hawks (2-3 overall, 2-1 Coulee Conference) trampled Viroqua 52-7 on the road on Friday, following up a 52-28 triumph over Black River Falls last week. Coach Paul Anderson’s squad will hope to make it three wins in a row this week with a visit from West Salem, a program tied for the Coulee Conference lead at 3-0 this season.

G-E-T 52 Viroqua 7

A performance that featured 404 rushing yards spread across nine players on Friday kept the Red Hawks’ offense clicking against their conference foe in the Blackhawks (1-4, 0-3 CC)

The Red Hawks scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half, including a big 63-yard dash from senior Warren Stoner and a one-yard run from quarterback Cody Schmitz. Viroqua made the game interesting early in the second half with a four-yard touchdown run, but G-E-T scored five straight times to close the game.

Senior Nate Schindler led the way for the visitors on Friday, racking up 94 yards and one score on 12 touches. Stoner added 87 yards for G-E-T, which also involved both Kyle (68 yards) and Brady (64) Seiling.

Schmitz finished with a pair of touchdowns on the ground and tossed a third to Schindler in a game G-E-T threw just three times but was perfect in the passing game.

The Red Hawk defense held Viroqua to 26 yards rushing and allowed 155 yards through the air. Brandt Robinson led the way on defense with four tackles, splitting a sack with Will Mack. Ben Hilton and Kaileb Lakey each added three tackles.
