Red Hawks compete at Mauston Invite
A heavy snowfall welcomed the Spring sports season last weekend, but the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau track and field team was still able to compete against several Coulee Conference and Mississippi Valley Conference opponents.
The Red Hawks trekked to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for an indoor invitational hosted by Mauston on Saturday afternoon. The lone Trempealeau County team at the event saw 12 athletes place inside the top three across four different events as the boys team finished 12th and the girls team was 13th.
Carter Repaal took home G-E-T’s top finish with his second-place toss in shot put. Repaal’s throw of 46 feet 11 inches was beaten only by Adams-Friendship senior Jake Long’s throw of 47 feet 4 inches.
The 3200-meter relay was a strong event on either side of the Red Hawks’ roster on Saturday as both the boys and girls teams ran to third-place finishes.
The girls’ relay team of Delilah Boberg, Raylin Cooksey, Nora Higgins and Jasmine Tarjeson earned G-E-T six team points and were one of just four teams to complete the event in under 11 minutes, 30 seconds (11:21.86).
West Salem won the event in 11:07.23, followed by La Crosse Logan in second with their time of 11:12.85.
Another relay team for the G-E-T girls also placed third, as the 1600-meter relay ran their event in 4:28.63. The Red Hawks’ relay team of Clara Schulze, Boberg, Breidenbach and Kaylee Hauge finished behind only Holmen (first, 4:22.81) and Onalaska (4:22.90).
Xander Burmeister joined teammates Andrew Lebakken, Mitch Caya and Carter Giemza to bring more points to G-E-T on Saturday. The 3200-meter relay team’s time of 9:18.95 placed third behind Reedsburg (9:02.36) and La Crosse Central (9:10.69).
