Red Hawks rattle off four straight wins
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau baseball team didn’t just earn their first win of the 2025 season last week — they rattled off four straight victories in a winning streak that included a series sweep to open conference play.
The Red Hawks (4-2, 2-0 Coulee Conference) eked out a win against Tomah, swept Onalaska Luther in games on back-to-back days and then defeated Prairie du Chien over the weekend.
G-E-T has a pair of conference road games coming up against Viroqua on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Westby on Monday at 5 p.m.
G-E-T 3 Tomah 2
Three early runs proved to be just enough for the Red Hawks to pick up a non-conference win over the Timberwolves (2-5) last Tuesday in Tomah.
After Tomah scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2, G-E-T was able to keep the Timberwolves off the board the rest of the way.
G-E-T’s Caiden Brady earned the victory after going 6 1/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits and two hit batters while striking out five. Oliver Marley got the save when he came in after Brady hit his pitch limit in the seventh. With runners at second and third, Marley retired the last two batters to preserve the win.
At the plate for the Red Hawks, Jackson Burns and Adian Busch each went 2 for 3.
G-E-T 7 Luther 1
A five-run rally in the first inning gave the Red Hawks a surplus of run support to win their conference opener against the Knights (0-3, 0-2) this past Thursday in Galesville.
A pair of G-E-T errors opened the door for a Luther run in the top of the first, but the Red Hawks responded with a five-run rally in the bottom half of the inning that included Ben Hansen’s RBI single and Ben Filla’s bases-loaded walk.
Filla got the win by giving up one unearned run on four hits and three walks to go along with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Calvin Davis pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Davis finished 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs and three stolen bases while Hansen finished 2 for 4 with an RBI.
G-E-T 3 Luther 0
A Ben Hansen complete-game shutout allowed G-E-T to complete its season sweep of Luther last Friday in Onalaska.
Hansen allowed only three hits and two walks in his seven scoreless innings, striking out five batters along the way. Hansen gave himself all the run support he needed with an RBI single in the top of the first.
G-E-T 8 Prairie du Chien 3
Trailing 3-1 through four innings, the Red Hawks unloaded for seven runs over the next two innings to beat Prairie du Chien (0-4) and push their winning streak to four on Saturday in Galesville.
In the bottom of the fifth, G-E-T leapfrogged ahead 5-3 thanks to a Jackson Burns RBI double, a Mitchell Thell RBI single and a Calvin Davis two-run single. The Red Hawks tacked on three more runs in the sixth with Hansen’s RBI double and a Burns two-run double.
Burns finished 3 for 4 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run, Davis was 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs and Sam De Jager went 2 for 4 with a run scored. De Jager tossed five innings on the mound to pick up the win, with Wyatt Oines and Marley each pitching a scoreless inning of relief.
