Red Hawks third in Coulee meet

For the first time in the 18-year history of the Coulee Conference, neither Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau nor Arcadia won the conference title in girls golf.

Arcadia, which has won 12 Coulee titles, including the last five, wasn’t able to field a team this year, which meant there was going to be a new conference champion. Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau – which won five straight from 2013 to 2017 — finished third as Westby claimed the top spot, both overall and at last Thursday’s Coulee Conference Championship meet.

The Norsemen scored a 397, Black River Falls finished second with a 419; G-E-T, third with a 442 and Cochrane-Fountain City was fourth with a 468.

Maddi Feltcher of Westby was the medalist last Thursday, shooting an 86, four strokes better than BRF’s Zowie Hunter.

Alexis Murphy led G-E-T and was third overall with a 93. Clair Wagner shot a 108, Jazlynn Olson, 119; Anna Motszko, 122 and Chloe Applin, 127.

The Red Hawks competed again on Monday in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Two Westby Regional. The top three teams and three individuals who are not on those teams will advance to the sectional at Trempealeau Mountain next week.
