Regional walk-off ends B-T baseball season

Cochrane-Fountain City ended the Blair-Taylor baseball team’s season last Thursday after eight innings and a walk-off single.

The fourth-seeded Pirates squeezed by the fifth-seeded Wildcats 3-2 to give Blair-Taylor a final 5-17 record for the 2022 season. The loss followed a regular season finale against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Monday that saw the Wildcats give up 12 runs.

The host Lancers opened the game with seven runs in the first inning and never let the Wildcats back into the game last Monday.

Blair-Taylor scored a pair of runs in the third inning, but the game was called after five innings.

Fremstad hit 2 for 3 for Blair-Taylor and scored one of the runs. Swenson got the call for the Wildcats, allowing four hits and the seven early runs–though only one of them was earned.

Anthony Oldendorf pitched the rest of the way for the Wildcats, allowing six hits and five scores while supplying five strikeouts and walking two.

Blair-Taylor opened the scoring on Thursday with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Pirates refused to give the visitors any breathing room.

Cochrane-Fountain City matched the two runs in the bottom half of the third, and the two teams played scoreless baseball through the rest of regulation.

The Pirates won on an RBI infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Blair-Taylor managed three hits in the effort, one each from Isaiah Washington, Jackson Shramek (double) and Eli Swenson.

Tavian Shramek started on the mound for Blair-Taylor, throwing six innings and change. He allowed four hits and two walks to go with a handful of strikeouts before Swenson closed the game.
