Rhead’s strong night powers Sparta past G-E-T
Sparta senior Gavin Rhead and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau junior Mason Brone each showed out in the non-conference clash between their two teams. In the end, it was Rhead and the Spartans who stood tall at the final buzzer.
The Spartans (5-2) welcomed in Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (3-4) and sent them home with a 68-57 defeat ahead of the holidays last Friday in Sparta. The Red Hawks trailed by a manageable 33-27 margin at the halftime break but were unable to flip the script over the final 18 minutes.
Brone tallied a team-high 19 points for G-E-T and senior Brecken Ebersold added 13 points to the effort. Rhead posted a double-double with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Other leaders for Sparta in the win were senior Grant Geier with 12 points and junior Kayden Kaat with nine points.
The Red Hawks kick off 2025 with a few road games in a row, starting with a non-conference matchup against Elk Mound on Friday. They then return to Coulee action against West Salem on Tuesday.
