Second half powers Arcadia to perfect start in boys hoops

Arcadia got off to the perfect start to the 2022-23 boys basketball season last week, taking home the win in the season opener in Elk Mound.

Arcadia controlled the second half on Friday after trailing by a point at halftime. The Raiders outscored the hosts 31-22 in the second half to power them to a 65-57 win.

Connor Weltzien scored 34 points and was “outstanding” for the Raiders, coach Ryan Sonnentag said, and Maverick Drazkowski was “fantastic”, dropping 21 points of his own to give Arcadia a 1-0 start to the year. 

Weltzien finished with a double-double by snagging 10 rebounds, while Prestin Scow collected nine. Devon Baeir paced Arcadia with six assists. Kaden Russo led Elk Mound with 19 points.

The Raiders are scheduled to host Viroqua (1-2 this season) on Friday for their Coulee Conference opener.
