Strong second half lifts Norse over Hornets
After a slow start, the Whitehall boys basketball team got its offense going in the second half and pulled away from Alma Center Lincoln for a 51-29 road win.
Whitehall trailed 15-13 at halftime of its final regular-season game last Thursday. The Hornets scored first in the second half, but the Norse responded with a 10-0 run.
Riley Herman started the run with a basket, then Bo Killian knocked down a three-pointer to give Whitehall the lead. Will Youngbauer scored, then Killian connected on another three to put the Norse ahead 23-17.
The Hornets ended the 10-0 run, but Youngbauer scored again before Mason Przybylla got a basket inside and Cayden Platteter connected on a three-pointer that gave Whitehall a 30-19 advantage with 10 minutes remaining.
Killian led Whitehall with 13 points, making three three-pointers in the game. Herman scored eight points and hauled in 12 rebounds.
Whitehall (18-6, 16-4) began Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association play with a home game against Augusta on Tuesday. The Norse are the fifth seed and, should they win, they would play at the winner of the game between (13) Cadott and (4) Durand on Friday. The regional final is set for Saturday, likely at (1) Fall Creek.
