Strong start leads Red Hawk girls past Westby

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School girls basketball team was ready from the start in a win over Coulee Conference opponent Westby last Thursday at home.

The Red Hawks (3-4 overall, 2-0 Coulee Conference) visited conference power West Salem on Tuesday.

G-E-T 56, Westby 51

Senior Lindsey Lettner scored 21 of her points — including four three-pointers — in the first half, as the Red Hawks built a 40-27 lead at the break.

Lettner finished with a game-high 27 points and nine different players scored for G-E-T, which held off a late push from the visiting Norsemen in the second half.

Senior Aleah Hunter had seven points for G-E-T, and classmate Kylie Schmitz added six. Wetstby was led by 12-point efforts from Jayda Berg and Aubrey Jothen.
