T-Wolves too big for Raiders

Size was a problem for the Arcadia girls basketball team in their 75-61 loss to Tomah last week Monday.

Coach Lucas Passehl said he knew the team would have a problem with Tomah’s size — especially on a long road trip — and it turned out to be an issue his team couldn’t conquer.

“I don’t know how many points they had in the paint, but it was quite a few,” Passehl said. “They killed us on rebounds and second chance points, and we could not overcome that.”

Arcadia graduated its top post players from a year ago, two 1,000-point scorers in Ellie Hoesley and Linzy Sendelbach and Tomah took advantage. The Timberwolves got 22 points from post player Alyssa Whaley while Ella Plueger — a guard listed at five-foot-eight — scored 16.

The good news, Passehl said, was that he can see his team’s offense coming together. The team had 15 assists on their 23 made field goals in the game. Point guard Chloe Halverson filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.

Breah Golden led the Raiders with 18 points, including four three pointers while Hailey Sonsalla scored 11, Casidi Pehler finished with 10, Autumn Passehl scored nine and Kianna Suchla added four.

Arcadia shot 40.5 percent from the field and was eight-of-nine from the free-throw line. They made seven three pointers in the game.

The loss dropped Arcadia to 1-2 on the season before their game at Fall Creek on Tuesday of this week. This coming Monday, they’ll play at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau with a home game against Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday.
