Titan wrestlers sweep home triangular

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro high school wrestling team entered the holiday season as winners last week.

The G/M Titans swept their home triangular with Westby and Black River Falls on Tuesday, handling Westby 72-6 before taking down Black River Falls 69-12.

The Titans are preparing for the Bi-State Classic this Thursday and Friday at the La Crosse Center.

Six different Titans earned a pin in their first match last week, with Carson Koss starting things off for the hosts with a pin over Garrett Vatland at 152 pounds in just under six minutes of action.

Gunnar Johnson (160), Alex Wieczorek (220), Colton Koss (106), Jayce Stetzer (120) and Layne Fry (126) all pinned their opponent for G/M, while Westby got points through decision wins in the 113 and 195-pound matches.

The Titans won by forfeit in six weight classes.

The wins kept coming for Coach Pete Peterson and G/M against Black River Falls in the second dual on Tuesday.

Wieczorek, Koss and Fry all got their second pins in as many matches to lead the Titans to the team win. Johnson won by an 8-2 decision.

Jackson Blaken (138) pinned his BRF opponent in just over a minute, while teammate Landon Windsor (152) earned his pin in just over five minutes. Ben Peterson (170), Mitch Berg (195) and Cisco Jimenez also earned pins to help the Titans.

Carson Koss, Stetzer and Koda Purney (113) each won by forfeit.
