Titans open season with quad sweep

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro wrestling co-op is back in action and off to a strong start after opening their season with a quad in Tomah last Thursday.

The Titans swept Thursday’s event by taking down Tomah and La Crosse. A short break greets the team this week ahead of an invitational in Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

The Titans’ middle and heavyweight wrestlers won five of the final six matches by pin to power the team to its first win of the year against Tomah on Thursday.

Gunnar Johnson (160 pounds), Ben Peterson (170), Mitch Berg (195), Alex Wieczorek (220) and Cisco Jimenez (285) each earned pins to close the event.

Other wrestlers picking up wins included Jayce Stetzer at 120 pounds, Layne Fry (126), Jackson Blaken (138) and Carson Koss (145).

G/M 62 La Crosse 8

Thursday’s strong start continued with the Titans overpowering La Crosse in the team’s second dual of the day — G/M won 12 of the 14 matches, collecting eight pins.

The Titans saw multiple wrestlers continue their winning ways as Stetzer, Koss, Fry, Johnson and Peterson left victorious in the light and mid weights. Berg, Wieczorek and Jimenez also picked up their second wins on the year.

Hayden Fry got his first win of the year at 145 pounds, as did Colton Koss (106). Koda Purney got a win at 113 pounds, and Scott Johnson had his arm raised in victory in the 132 pound match.
