With two more wins last week, the Whitehall boys basketball team will control its own destiny in Dairyland Conference play.

Lopsided wins over Augusta last Tuesday and Cochrane-Fountain City on Friday paired with a loss by Alma Center Lincoln to Eleva-Strum, put the Norse essentially in a tie at the top of the Dairyland Conference Large Division. Technically, Whitehall is half of a game back because they have played one fewer game, but if Whitehall wins its last two games, the team will have a share of the conference title.

The first of those two games came this week Monday when the Norse went to Melrose-Mindoro to take on the third-place Mustangs, who also have a shot at tying for the conference title. The regular season ends on Thursday for the Norse when they host Eleva-Strum.

Whitehall earned the third seed in their Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Four bracket and will have a bye when tournament play begins this coming Tuesday. On Friday, the Norse will play the winner of the game between (11) Stanley-Boyd and (6) Fall Creek. The regional final game will be played next Saturday.

Whitehall 78 Augusta 64 - Sharp-shooting and dominance on the glass helped the Norse control the game.

Whitehall had a 50-17 rebounding advantage in the game, which helped them get 15 more field goal attempts and 16 more shots at the free-throw line. In addition, the Norse knocked down 11 three pointers in the game.

The Norse took a 39-29 lead into halftime and were able to keep control as they went on for a 14-point win.

James Breska and Jonathan Thorn both made four three pointers and had 18 points to lead the Norse. Brandon Dick scored 13 and pulled down 17 rebounds while Devon McCune had 13 points, Isaac Skoyen scored 11 and Aidan Sonsalla finished with three.
