Viroqua tops Arcadia in prep gymnastics
The Arcadia High School gymnastics team fell at the hands of Viroqua last week as the Raiders continue through the 2022-23 season. Arcadia was scheduled to visit West Salem/Aquinas for a quad tournament Jan. 5.
Against Viroqua, Hannah Gierok and Nora Bergerson each cracked the top five in the all-around competition of the dual but the Raiders ultimately lost 129.3-77.95 on Tuesday with just three gymnasts.
Viroqua junior Morgan Siekert swept the meet, taking the top spot in all four events and being crowned the all-around champion with a 36.
The Blackhawks’ Isabell Korn and Emma Harem took second and third respectively to help the hosts claim the top three spots.
Gierok placed fourth in the all-around with a 31.075, just ahead of Bergerson (30.225).
Gierok placed fourth in the balance beam as well as the floor exercise and fifth in vault, but her best performance came on the uneven bars—the sophomore’s 7.8 was good for second place and was beaten only by Siekert’s winning score of nine.
Bergerson showed her strength on the floor on Tuesday, claiming third with an 8.125. The Arcadia senior was bested only by Siekert (9.05) and Korn (8.3). Bergerson also got a fifth place finish in the beam with a 7.4, a sixth place finish on the bars (6.9) and a fourth place vault (7.8).
Arcadia also got an eighth place finish in the all-around from senior Zoey George, who scored a 16.65.
