West Salem trumps GMC gymnasts

G-E-T/Mel-Min/C-FC junior gymnast Abigail Miller won three of four events in a dual against West Salem/Aquinas last Thursday, but the host Panthers took both of the top spots in the all-around to lead them to a win.

West Salem/Aquinas won 135.975-132.15 behind all-around champion Taliyia Michlig’s 34.9 and runner up Sara Gyllander’s 34.75.

Miller finished third with a 34.725, and GMC teammates Paris Lambert (34.175) and Katie Pierson (30.35) took fourth and fifth, respectively.

GMC senior Ellayna Christopherson closed out the scores in the all-around with a 30.

Miller tied with Michlig for first place in vault with a 9.1, also taking first in the uneven bars at 8.45 and floor at 9.175.

The junior’s all-around score was hurt by a ninth place finish (8.0) in the balance beam.

Lambert finished second in the beam with an 8.6, just behind Gyllander at 9.3. The senior was fourth in floor (8.725) and bars (7.95) and finished third in vault at 8.9.

Pierson scored a 7.65 in floor and balance beam, adding a 7.9 in vault and a 7.15 in bars.
