Westby ends Whitehall baseball season

The Coulee Conference champions jumped on Whitehall in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Four regional semifinal game early and didn’t let up, winning 10-0 in five innings. 

Westby scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, three on a triple after a double, a walk and two hit batters. After scoring one in the second, Westby added a two-run double as part of a five-run third inning. 

Whitehall ace Luke Matejka took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing five earned runs on four hits, one walk and two hit batters. Mason Pientok was next on the mound, he al-lowed five runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three. Alex Sartor finished the game, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out three.

Whitehall had just two hits in the game, singles by Pientok and Sartor. 

The Norse season ended with a 14-7 record, including a streak in which the team won 10 straight games toward the end of the season.

Westby went on to beat Viroqua, 6-0, on Wednesday to win the regional title. The top-seeded Norsemen are 23-5 on the season and played in the sectional round on Tuesday of this week.
