Whitehall boys win DC meet at Mel-Min

With a majority of the Dairyland Conference teams competing, the Whitehall boys team took the top spot in a meet at Melrose-Mindoro.

The seven-team meet was the largest most of the teams involved have competed in this year and Whitehall topped the boys’ field with 114 points, nine more than Alma/Pepin. Independence/Gilmanton finished sixth with 43 points. Cochrane-Fountain City was the top girls team, scoring 103 points to Augusta’s 102. Whitehall was sixth with 49.5 and I/G was seventh with 37.5.

The regular season ended on Monday when the DC teams met for another meet in Independence.

Both Whitehall and I/G will compete in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Three Mondovi regional this coming Monday. The top four finishers in each event will compete in the Bangor sectional next Thursday.

DC at Mel-Min

Greg Santos turned in a big performance for the Norse boys.

Santos won both the 100 hurdles and the long jump, took second in the 300 hurdles and ran on the second-place 1600 relay team.  

Ben Mohan was also on the 1600 team while running on the second-place 3200 relay team and taking second in the high jump. Jonathan Thorn ran on the 1600 team and was second in the 400.

I/G took third in both the 400 and 800 relays as did Alex Pfaff in the 100.

Avery Sonsalla and Mia Sygulla both had second-place finishes for the Whitehall girls. Sonsalla was the runner-up in the 200 and Sygulla took second in the 300 hurdles.

Callie Zastrow was the top finisher for the I/G girls, winning the shot put.
