Whitehall softball team loses three
The Whitehall softball team had a chance to win one of three games last week, but the other two ended up being lopsided losses.
Whitehall began the week with a 22-0 loss to Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday. They rebounded on Thursday and had chances to defeat Melrose-Mindoro, but came up short 8-7. They put together one big inning, but defensive struggles hurt them again in an 18-8 loss to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Friday.
Whitehall enters this week with a record of 1-4 before playing at Pepin/Alma on Tuesday. They host Eleva-Strum on Thursday and head to Augusta on Friday. Next Tuesday they will conclude a previously-suspended game against Independence/Gilmanton and play a second game against the Indees on Tuesday.

The Norse weren’t able to manage anything offensively as they victims of a perfect game in their three-inning loss.
The Pirates scored eight runs in the bottom of the first, four in the second and 10 in the third. They had 16 hits and took advantage of six Whitehall errors and seven walks.
Mel-Min 8 Whitehall 7
The Mustangs scored in the top of the eighth to hand the Norse a loss in a back-and-forth game.
Mel-Min scored the first two runs of the game before the Norse came up with three in the bottom of the second. The Mustangs re-took the lead with two in the top of the fourth, but the Norse scored two of their own in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead.
The Mustangs wouldn’t go away, however, as they scored three in the top of the sixth to tie the game. The game remained tied through the end of regulation before Mel-Min scored in the top of the eighth and the Norse were unable to match them.
Aubrea Smieja took the loss, allowing 13 hits and three walks while striking out six. Only four of the Mustangs’ runs were earned as the Norse committed five errors.
Smieja had a good day for the Norse at the plate, going three-for-five with two RBIs. Brenna Clatt was also three-for-five and added three RBIs. Whitehall had 12 hits.

A big inning wasn’t enough for the Norse.
The Lancers came out swinging with 10 runs combined in the first two innings then three more in the third to take a 13-0 lead into the fourth.
That’s when the Norse made the game more interesting with eight runs in the top of the fourth, but it wasn’t enough.
The Lancers came back with four more in the bottom of the fourth then ended the game via the mercy rule with one in the fifth.
Whitehall had seven hits in the game, led by Clatt’s three. Smieja and Nylah Lisowski both had two RBIs.
