Whitehall softball team thumped by B-T, Mel-Min

It proved to be a difficult week for the Whitehall softball team, losing two games by a combined score of 40-2.

The first loss came to a team that has beaten several opponents by similar scores as the Norse lost to Blair-Taylor 23-0 last Thursday (see story elsewhere in Sports). On Friday, the Norse struggled against Melrose-Mindoro — a team they nearly defeated earlier this season — losing 17-2.

The losses put Whitehall’s record at 2-8 on the season before games at Alma Center Lincoln on Monday and at home against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday. They’ll host Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday and head to Independence/Gilmanton this coming Wednesday.

The teams were tied 2-2 before the Mustangs took control with seven runs in the third and eight in the fourth.

Both of Whitehall’s runs came in the second inning on a hit by Aubrea Smieja. That was one of three hits the Norse had in the game.

The Mustangs had 13 hits and took advantage of three Whitehall errors. Smija got the start and took the loss for the Norse.
