Whitetails sweep Athletics to even record

The Whitehall Whitetails amateur baseball team won two games against the Augusta Athletics last week to even its record at 5-5.
Whitehall outscored Augusta 16-1 in the two games, beating the Athletics 6-0 last week Wednesday and 10-1 on Saturday. The wins moved Whitehall up to fourth in the Chippewa River Baseball League South Division, behind Osseo (9-6), Eau Claire Cavaliers (8-3) and Eau Claire Bears (12-2).
The local team was scheduled to play at Beef River this Wednesday then will be off until July 9 when it takes on the Eau Claire Bears at Cinder City Park.

Eleva-Strum graduate Tyler Webb was in control on the mound after the Whitetails took an early lead.
Whitehall scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, then broke the game open with three in the sixth. The team added two more in the eighth.
Whitehall scattered 11 hits, while Augusta was held to six.
Individual statistics were not reported to the Times.

Independence/Gilmanton graduate Brandon Sylla struck out 10 in Whitehall’s win on Saturday.
Sylla allowed just five hits and walked one batter in the complete game victory.
Whitehall took the lead with four runs in the top of the first inning, including two on a double by Jake Bjerke that gave the team the lead. Aidan Sonsalla added a two-run hit in the inning. Devon McCune brought one home with a triple in the second.
Augusta got on the board with one run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Whitetails pulled away with five in the top of the ninth. Sylla hit an RBI double while Chris Killian and Sam Killian added RBI singles in the inning. Another run scored on a groundout by Brayden Lisowski.
Whitehall had 11 hits in the game, Sonsalla, Bryce Schorbahn and McCune all had two hits in the game.
