WHS softball team loses last two games

The Whitehall softball team struggled to keep either of its final two opponents off the board as they lost their last regular season and first postseason games.

Augusta started and closed with six-run innings, beating Whitehall 14-0 in the final regular season game last week Monday. On Wednesday, the Norse began Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament play in Durand, but had similar struggles, losing 18-3.

The Norse finished the 2021 campaign with a 3-14 record.

Augusta 14 Whitehall 0

Six runs in the first inning and six more win the fifth were the big difference between the teams.

The Beavers managed nine hits and took advantage of four Whitehall errors in the game. They took a big lead with six runs in the first inning before adding runs in the second and fourth innings. Their final at-bat ended with a bang as they put up four more, putting the Norse in a big hole.

Whitehall managed two hits in the game.

Durand 18 Whitehall 3

Whitehall took the lead midway through the game, but it didn’t last long.

Durand scored two runs in the first inning and held a 2-0 lead until the third when the Norse put up three runs — including two on a hit by Nylah Lisowski — to go ahead 3-2.

The Panthers took control of the game in the next half-inning, however, scoring seven runs to take a 9-3 lead. They broke it wide open with nine more in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.

McKenna Pientok had two hits for the Norse as they finished with seven for a team.

Durand had 10 hits as the Norse helped out with four errors.
